Three-Time Olympian Tony Benshoof Has Successful Microdisectomy Performed by Dr. Robert S. Bray, Jr.

Tony BenshoofDr. Robert S. Bray, Jr., neurological spinal surgeon reports the following after Tony Benshoof’s procedure to correct a re-ruptured disk and a newly torn disk in his back yesterday, March 30:

"The surgery was successful and went very well, as expected. We were able to repair the L5/S1 and the L4/5 discs. I expect Tony to have a very good outcome. He will be back later in the summer for a very extensive rehabilitation program to help him get stronger and more flexible."

Three-time Olympian and USA Luge’s most successful male athlete, Tony Benshoof, of White Bear Lake, Minn. on the procedure:

"I don’t feel too bad. Dr. Bray and his team gave me first-class treatment. I arrived at 10 AM and began the pre-operative process. They were very thorough, with lots of redundancies to ensure everything went well. I was under anesthesia for about 90 min. My lower disk (L5/S1) was in very bad shape, but Dr, Bray seems optimistic that I will be able to recover fully. I’m walking around, but not doing jumping jacks yet."

Benshoof will spend two days in the Los Angeles area before returning to Minnesota on the morning of April 2. He expects to begin rehabilitation at home within the next three to four weeks.
